Meet Biopod, the desk-sized, app-controlled rainforest

There’s something about the Biopod — dubbed the “World’s First Smart Microhabitat” — that has fired the imagination of people around the world. After all, its creator Jared Wolfe only asked for a modest $30,000 CAD on Kickstarter. He ended up raising over $400,000.

So what is it? The Biopod is a microhabitat that automatically controls temperature, light, humidity, ventilation and rainfall. You manage and control it using a smartphone app, enabling you to grow anything from a herb, vegetable or flower garden to a miniature rainforest for your pets.

Once you plant seeds in the soil of this incredible device, all you need to do is open the app on your smartphone, choose the types of plants you want to grow and tell the app if you intend to keep a pet in there. Then Biopod takes care of everything!

The app can tell you the best seeds to plant and their growth cycles; shows expected blooming and harvesting rates; and it even records HD video and playback growth in time lapse. Find out more at or watch the Kickstarter video below.
